About HikeHydrated

Hydration shouldn't be an afterthought on the trail.

HikeHydrated is a research-driven resource for hikers, backpackers, and trail runners who take their hydration strategy seriously. We cover the gear — water bottles, filters, reservoirs, electrolytes, insulated containers — and the knowledge behind it: how much water you actually need at altitude, why sodium matters more than sugar, what separates a bottle that lasts a decade from one that cracks in a season.

What we do

We research hydration gear the way a preparation-minded hiker would: read the spec sheets, aggregate hundreds of owner reviews, compare performance claims against field conditions, and cross-check manufacturer data with independent reports. When we recommend a product, it's because the evidence — across durability, weight, capacity, ease of cleaning, and real-world use — points there.

We don't take payment from brands to rank their products higher. We participate in the Amazon Associates Program, which means we may earn a commission when you buy through a link on our site. That commission funds this work. It does not influence which products we recommend.

Who we are

HikeHydrated is published by Vertical Publishing SRL, an independent publishing operation based in Alba Iulia, Romania. We run a portfolio of specialized content properties across outdoor gear, civic journalism, and publishing — each built on the same principle: deep research, transparent methods, no shortcuts.

What you won't find here

  • Sponsored "best of" lists where rankings follow ad budgets.
  • Affiliate-stuffed posts with no substance behind the recommendations.
  • Copy-pasted manufacturer marketing dressed up as editorial.

What you will find

  • Category guides that explain the tradeoffs before recommending a product.
  • Methodology we're willing to show you (see How We Test).
  • Side-by-side comparisons with the criteria that actually matter.
  • Answers to the questions hikers actually ask.

If hydration is the boring, un-photogenic part of your kit list, you're in the right place. It's also the part that ends hikes early when it goes wrong — so we think it deserves more attention than it gets.
